I was given the opportunity this year again to make the awards for the chili cook-off at the church fall festival, and I had a great time making them.

The Most Unique Award I started with this cherry crotch log.

After working on the lathe a while, and sealing it with shellac and wax, I finished with this.

Next, on my CNC I made a double salt cellar from Russian Olive wood (I think). Then I turned some lids for the container on the lathe. One was solid Russian Olive, and the other has a spalted maple knob.

Finally, the overall winner trophy is the largest platter I’ve ever turned – this 14.5″ spalted maple platter. I charred the bottom with flame and then sealed the whole platter with shellac. I love the different textures and cracking within the piece.

Which one is your favorite?
