A close family friend has spent the a large portion of the past 8-10 years fighting a brain tumor. Recently her health took a turn for the worse. One of her dreams since childhood was to have a farm with some horses. Since that was probably not possible, I made this diorama for their mantle as a keepsake for her family. I used 3/4″ plywood for the base and barn, a leftover stair railing for the roof, and oak, cherry, and maple for the fence, doors, and posts. The horses are Schleich solid plastic and represent each member of the family, Dad, Mom, two girls, then a boy. Also, genetically speaking (as far as toys go) the offspring of the parents are all plausible. It was such an honor to make, and I hope they enjoy it for years to come.
Sadly, she passed away February 13th. However her memory lives on, in her words, her kindness and her husband and the children she raised.
