I made a leather and wood pencil pouch using my x-carve, leather scraps, and thumbtacks. It turned out pretty well and the new owner loves it. Check out the video below:

I learned a couple of things in the build that I will implement next time I make one some.

  1. Pre-drilling the holes for the thumbtacks helps them go in straight
  2. Measuring the hole distances helps give it a more uniform look.
  3. Putting a piece of leather between the hammer and the thumbtacks will keep the finish from scratching.
  4. Folding the end of the cover over and gluing it will avoid needing to cover it with another piece of leather.
